Welcome to Gateway Smiles Dental Care, Fredericksburg, VA
Welcome

Your first visit, made easy.

We know that meeting a new dentist can feel a little uncertain. Here is what to expect at your first visit at Gateway Smiles, and what you can do in advance to make it as smooth as possible.

What to expect

  1. A warm welcome

When you arrive, you'll be greeted by name and offered water or coffee. Our front desk team has been with the practice for years and will help with any paperwork you didn't complete in advance.

  2. A thorough conversation

Before we look at your teeth, we listen. Your medical and dental history, your concerns, your goals, and any past dental experiences — all of it shapes the care we provide.

  3. A complete examination

Digital X-rays, a careful exam of every tooth, an evaluation of your gums and bite, and an oral cancer screening. We use high magnification and dental photography so you can see what we see.

  4. A clear plan

We sit down together and talk through what we found, what we recommend, and what your options are. You'll leave with a written treatment plan and clear pricing — no pressure, no surprises.

Before your visit

What to bring.

Arrive 15 minutes early to complete a brief health history form, or call ahead and we'll email it so you can fill it out at home.

  • A photo ID
  • Your dental insurance card (if you have coverage)
  • A current list of medications you take
  • Any recent X-rays or dental records from a previous dentist (we can also request them on your behalf with your written authorization)
  • A list of questions or concerns you'd like to discuss

If you have specific anxieties or special needs, please mention them when you schedule. We have time to talk through any concerns and can adjust how we approach the visit accordingly.

For anxious patients

If the dentist makes you nervous, you are not alone.

Dental anxiety affects an estimated 30–40% of adults, and it keeps many people from getting care they need. We have helped many patients overcome years of avoidance through patient, gentle, sedation-supported visits.

Tell us about your anxiety when you schedule. We offer nitrous oxide (laughing gas) and oral sedation, and we go at your pace. The first visit can be a chance to meet the team and look around — no exam required if you're not ready.
