General Dentistry

The foundation of a healthy smile

General dentistry is the everyday work of keeping your mouth healthy. It is the cornerstone of every smile, and it is where most patients spend the majority of their time with us — at twice-yearly cleanings, periodic exams, and the occasional restorative procedure that protects a tooth before a small problem becomes a large one.

At Gateway Smiles, our general dentistry services are built around two principles: prevention first, and when treatment is needed, conservative restoration. We use digital X-rays and high-magnification examination to catch issues at their earliest stages, when they are smallest, least invasive to treat, and least expensive to address.

Dr. Ansam Zaiber brings more than 25 years of clinical experience to every general dentistry visit. Whether you are coming in for your first cleaning or rebuilding a tooth that has been compromised by decay or wear, you can expect a thorough evaluation, a clear explanation of your options, and a treatment plan that respects your time, budget, and personal preferences.

The Gateway Smiles approach

Prevention before intervention

Most dental problems are far easier to prevent than to treat. Regular exams, professional cleanings, and digital X-rays let us identify and address concerns when they are still small — saving you time, discomfort, and expense in the long run.

Conservative restorations

When restoration is needed, we choose the most conservative option that will restore long-term function. We protect healthy tooth structure whenever possible and use modern, tooth-colored materials that blend seamlessly with your natural smile.

Patient education at every visit

We believe informed patients make the best decisions about their care. At every appointment, we explain what we see, what your options are, and what we recommend — without pressure or jargon.

Comfort-focused care

We understand that dental visits can feel stressful. Our team prioritizes gentle techniques, clear communication, and a calm environment so that every visit is as comfortable as possible.

Insurance and cost

Most general dentistry services — including exams, cleanings, and X-rays — are covered at 80–100% by dental insurance plans as preventive care. Basic restorative services like fillings are typically covered at 70–80%. Our front desk team will verify your benefits before your appointment and provide a clear estimate of any out-of-pocket cost.

Frequently asked questions

For most patients, we recommend a professional cleaning and exam every six months. Patients with a history of periodontal disease, heavy tartar buildup, or other risk factors may benefit from more frequent visits — typically every three to four months. We will recommend the schedule that is right for you at your first visit.

Most dental insurance plans cover preventive services like exams and cleanings at 80% to 100%. Our team will verify your benefits before your appointment and provide a clear estimate of any portion you would be responsible for. We file claims on your behalf as a courtesy.

You are not alone, and you are very welcome here. Many of our patients come to us after a long gap in care. We will start with a comprehensive exam and X-rays, then build a plan that addresses any urgent issues first and prioritizes the rest based on your goals and budget. No judgment — just a path forward.

Yes. We are accepting new patients of all ages, from children through seniors. The easiest way to get started is to call our office at (540) 299-5721 or use our online appointment request form.

A regular cleaning (prophylaxis) removes plaque and tartar from above the gum line and is appropriate for healthy mouths. A deep cleaning (scaling and root planing) goes below the gum line to remove buildup and bacteria from the tooth roots and is recommended when there are signs of periodontal disease. Your hygienist and Dr. Zaiber will assess your gum health at every visit and recommend the appropriate type of cleaning.

Absolutely. We welcome families and care for patients of all ages. Our team is experienced with children and works to make every visit positive and stress-free for young patients.
